Reflections On Week 1

1. The factor that I think will most affect my participation and experience in this class is my schedule. Since I will have history, math, Spanish, chemistry all at the same time, I will have a limited time schedule to get all my homework done and keep up with my classes. In addition, I have soccer practice every Tuesday and Thursday. Practice takes away about three hours of my time, so I always try to get some homework done before, but I usually don't get a lot done. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the days I am busy the most and end up staying up till one or two in the morning trying to get my homework done. I am not very good in using my time wisely, so that will not benefit me at all. Even though I know I have tons of homework, I waste time using my phone or messing around. Using my time wisely is one aspect I will have to improve.

2. I don't really have an awesome learning experience, but I did learn some attributes that have helped me. In sixth grade at Ontiveros elementary school, I had a teacher that really helped me improve in English. Some aspects that I improved on was my way of writing, vocabulary, comprehension skills, and speaking in front of people. She not only taught well, but she also developed my confidence. When she placed me in an advanced class, I thought I wasn't smart enough to be in that class. She made me realize that I am smart and that by working hard would help me pass the class. I always paid attention to her because she would give out useful information on how to succeed in school.

3. I am most excited about being challenged. Being challenged will help me grow in English and make me realize that I can keep up in advanced classes. I look forward to learning how to improve my writing and speaking in front of others. On the other hand, I am most concerned about the amount of homework and the timed essays. The amount of homework worries me because I don't know if I will have enough time to complete it as a result of having five other classes. Another concern is the timed essays because I don't do well under a limited amount of time and pressure. When I am under pressure, I get really nervous and anxious which doesn't allow me to think. Working under pressure will benefit me by working more efficiently and maintaining self control.
